Non-destructive testing technology (NDT) is becoming more and more important because it is a resource-saving and climate-neutral testing technology. It avoids the rejects caused by destructive test procedures. Acoustic material testing in particular can show its strengths for that reason.
Acoustic material testing is simple, fast, flexible and robust. It reliably detects defects and structural deviations. It works without any environmentally harmful additives and only separates the damaged component. The result is 100% quality assurance, reproducible and documented.
Acoustic material testing, including sound testing, is found much more frequently than expected in the manufacturing process. It is still carried out subjectively by employees. With the modern RTE systems, this subjective, but uncomplicated, acoustic test can be replaced by an objective, effective and automatable acoustic testing. New Artificial Intelligence methods support the analysis and parameterization as well as the efficiency of the test features.
Areas of application
The acoustic sound test can be found in its classic areas of application: casting industry, sintered metals and also stoneware, ceramics industry such as roof tile testing. Everywhere where the employee can tell from the sound how the quality is going. (Cracks, microstructure, delamination, etc.).
However, new technologies and trends also require a new assessment of the use of acoustic resonance technology (ART). In particular, lightweight construction and composites (hybrid materials) and plastics require their own approach to material testing. Acoustic material testing with its diverse analysis methods can be a real asset here. Strength, rigidity, durability and wear monitoring are important requirements for lightweight construction.
Advantage / Benefit
Acoustic material testing is robust, fast and effective compared to other testing methods. It does not require any additives or certified personnel. The ROI pays off considerably faster than for any other test method. The potential for savings ranges from employees to expensive system technology to avoidable rejects. It can be integrated into production flexibly and in a space-saving manner without much effort. A large number of static evaluations of the test data enables continuous process monitoring and the avoidance of systematic errors.
Fine tuning of the test system? No problem for the sophisticated re-evaluation tool. It enables the subsequent analysis and correction of the test characteristics. To the optimum!
Automation
The SonicTC test system has just been developed for industrial automation. Traceability, documentation of results and various options for data export to central QM systems are integrated as standard. The current interfaces for automation are available and preconfigured for direct use and system communication. The automated test sequence does not need a second for the quality assessment from the vibration excitation to the evaluation of the measurement data and output of the results.
Why RTE?
What makes the RTE test system so powerful in acoustic material testing?
The variety of self-developed test algorithms and AI methods enable the testing of complex components, especially by taking into account the manufacturing influences. The acoustic resonance technology (ART) is robust but also super sensitive. The vibration behavior of the component to be tested depends, for example, on temperature influences, dimensional and weight fluctuations, and structural aging. This has to be compensated in order to get an exact selectivity for the statement about quality and the errors. With powerful compensation features, RTE has created various USPs and has thus created a significantly better application and usage option compared to competitive systems.
